The Publishers Association of the West publishes the Annual Huenefeld- PubWest Survey of Financial Operations.

Statistics on royalty related expenses from the 2002 survey, which you can download at no-charge, included:

2002 Royalty Rates

10% of the respondants to the survey paid royalties based on list price.

For trade publishers the average royalty based on list price was 7%

90% of the respondants to the survey paid royalties based on net price.

For trade publishers the average royalty based on net price was 10%

For professional book publishers the average royalty based on net price was 11%
